Chapter 2: The Name She Was Never Supposed to Know

Part 2 ⬇️
Ethan didn't move.
He just stood there, staring at Madison like he was seeing her for the first time.
"Those documents," he said quietly.
"How did you even know they existed?"
Madison's jaw tightened.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"You just said it.
On the recording."
She glanced at the front door.
Then back at Ethan.
"You're going to believe a seven-year-old over me?"
Noah stepped closer to his mother and took her hand.
Clara finally spoke.
"She's been asking me about that room for weeks, Ethan.
Every time you weren't home."
Something shifted in Ethan's face.
Not anger.
Something colder.
He walked to the bottom of the staircase and looked up — toward the locked room on the third floor.
Then he turned back to Madison.
"Who sent you?"
The question landed like a stone.
Madison said nothing.
But her eyes moved — just for a second — to Clara.
And Clara saw it.
Because Clara recognized that look.
She had seen it once before.
In a photograph.
Inside an envelope she was never supposed to find.
Her voice dropped to almost nothing.
"Ethan…
I think I know who she's working for."
