Chapter 2: The Folder With His Signature

The room went dead silent.
Marcus laughed first — a short, nervous sound that didn't match his face.
"Successor?" he said.
"Harrison, you can't be serious.
You don't even know her."
Chairman Cole looked at him the way you look at someone who has already lost.
"I've known Rebecca for three years, Marcus.
She rebuilt the Harlow Group's Asia division after it collapsed.
She did it quietly.
She asked for no credit.
That is exactly why I chose her."
The woman beside Marcus — the one he had left me for — grabbed his arm.
"What is he talking about?" she whispered.
"You told me she was nothing."
Marcus said nothing.
Because he knew.
He had always known.
He just never believed I would actually do it.
I walked to the chairman's side without looking back at Marcus.
But as I passed the main table, I noticed something that stopped me cold.
A folder.
Half open.
With my name on it — and Marcus's signature at the bottom.
My assistant leaned close and said quietly, "He tried to block your appointment two weeks ago.
We didn't tell you because we didn't want you distracted."
I picked up the folder.
My hands were steady.
My voice was calm.
"Marcus," I said.
"I think it's time we had a real conversation."
He took one step back.
And that's when his phone rang.

What was in that folder — and who was calling Marcus at that exact moment?
