Chapter 2: The List in Red Ink

Part 2 ⬇️

David went back upstairs.

Jasmine thought it was over.

It wasn't.

That same evening, Jessica knocked on Jasmine's bedroom door.

"We need to talk."

Jasmine opened the door slowly.

"I have nothing to say to you."

Jessica lowered her voice so David couldn't hear.

"You think running to your daddy saves you?

You're an adult.

You should be ashamed."

Jasmine felt her chest tighten.

"I didn't run to anyone.

He heard you himself."

Jessica smiled — cold and thin.

"He won't always be home, sweetheart."

Then she slipped a folded piece of paper under Jasmine's arm and walked away without another word.

Jasmine looked down.

It was a handwritten list.

Every item Jasmine had ever used in the house.

Food.

Hot water.

Electricity.

Shampoo.

At the bottom, in red ink, was a total.

$6,400.

And below that, four words:

*"Pay or pack permanently."*

Jasmine's hands were shaking.

She had no idea Jessica had been keeping this list for months.

And she had no idea what her father had hidden from her about the house — something that gave Jessica far more power than anyone realized.

What Jessica has been hiding will shock you.
