Chapter 1: The Woman on the Marble Floor

"The Mistress Shoved His Pregnant Wife in a Hospital Hallway, but the Billionaire Froze When the Director Said, "Touch My Niece Again."

She pushed me during an argument while my husband watched.

Not enough to seriously hurt me, but enough to make every nurse, patient, and stranger in that polished hospital hallway see exactly how little she respected me.

I was eight months pregnant, wearing a faded blue maternity dress from Target because my billionaire husband Bennett had frozen every personal card in my wallet three days earlier.

I was Tessa Halloway on paper, but to him I was an inconvenience.

To his mistress Margot, I was an obstacle.

That morning at St.

Jude's in Phoenix, I was the woman on the marble floor, one hand protecting my unborn child.

Bennett stood tall in his charcoal suit, watch gleaming under the lights.

"Don't make this dramatic, Tessa," he said coldly.

Margot clung to his arm, twenty-six and glossy, whispering, "Maybe now you'll finally understand where you belong."

I didn't cry.

That disappointed her.

She wanted tears, begging, weakness.

But I'd learned that begging a person who enjoys your pain only gives them more power.

I breathed.

My daughter moved gently beneath my hand — a reminder I wasn't alone.

"Are you really going to say nothing?" I asked Bennett.

His expression shifted — not with love or regret, but calculation.

"Margot is upset."

Witnesses froze around us.

Bennett performed, extending his hand like a caring husband.

"Get up, Tessa.

People are watching."

I ignored him.

Three years ago that hand placed a ring on my finger.

Three days ago it froze my accounts.

Now he wanted to look like a hero because people were watching.

I pushed myself up.

"I'm okay," I told the nurse calmly.

That bothered Margot more than anything.

I looked at my stained dress, at Bennett, then at the small black security camera in the corner.

Recording everything.

And then I saw him walking toward us — the hospital director.

His expression changed when he spotted me.

He looked at Margot, then at Bennett, and said four words that silenced the entire hallway:

"Touch my niece again."

"Bennett…

who exactly did you marry?"

What will Bennett do now that the director is standing right there?
