Chapter 2: The Woman No One Noticed

The elevator opened and three men in suits walked out — Sloane's lawyers.
Grant's smile disappeared.
"What is this?" he said.
Sloane didn't look at him.
She looked at the investors standing near the entrance and spoke clearly.
"This hotel was built with my capital, my name, and my credit.
Every contract in this building carries my signature — not his."
Bianca stepped forward.
"You signed a joint ownership agreement.
Grant showed it to us."
Sloane finally turned.
"He showed you a draft.
The final agreement was never executed." She paused.
"Because I never signed it."
A reporter near the ribbon raised her phone.
Grant moved toward Sloane.
"You're embarrassing yourself."
"No," Sloane said quietly.
"I'm protecting what's mine."
One of the lawyers opened a folder and handed a document to the lead investor.
The man read it, then looked at Grant with something close to disgust.
Then a woman near the back of the crowd spoke up — someone no one had noticed until now.
"I witnessed the original contract.
I can tell you exactly what it said."
Grant turned.

His face went pale.
He knew her.
