Chapter 1: Nobody Moved

My sister looked me str@ight in the eyes before she kicked me — six months pregnant — square in the stomach.

"This is what you get for thinking you're better than family."

The impact sent me straight down onto the grass.

I wrapped both hands around my belly and waited.

Waited for my daughter to move.

Nothing.

Not a kick.

Not a flutter.

Not one single sign of life from the baby who had been kicking me every night for two weeks straight.

My sister started crying almost immediately.

Not because she felt guilty.

Because our seventeen-year-old cousin had been filming the entire cookout — and the camera caught every second of it.

"She came at me first!"

"It was an accident, I swear!"

My parents ran straight past me and wrapped their arms around HER.

Then my husband dropped to his knees beside me.

Called 911.

And looked up at every single relative standing frozen on that lawn who had watched it happen and done absolutely nothing.

His voice was quiet.

Cold.

Final.

"Nobody moves."

When police arrived minutes later, my father tried to snatch our cousin's phone right out of her hands to destroy the footage.

My mother slipped inside the house and quietly took the folder of documents that had started the whole argument in the first place.

And two days later, in a hospital room, doctors found something in my bl00dwork that turned this from a family @ssault case into something much, much darker.

Because my sister's kick wasn't the plan.

It was only supposed to finish it.

Someone in my family didn't just want my baby hurt.

They needed her gone — before a trust worth millions became permanent the moment she was born.
