Chapter 2: The Call He Finally Answered

**— PART 2 —**
Alejandro's convoy reached the mansion in eleven minutes.
His security team cut the gate lock.
His doctors ran in first.
They found Camila at the bottom of the staircase, unconscious, her phone still warm in her hand.
Alejandro knelt beside her and pressed two fingers gently to her neck.
"She's alive.
Move.
Now."
They had her in the private medical van within sixty seconds.
On the way to the hospital, one of the doctors looked up from the monitor with tight eyes.
"The baby is in distress.
We need to move fast."
Alejandro never left her side.
At 4:47 in the morning, Camila was rushed into surgery.
Alejandro sat alone in the corridor, elbows on his knees, staring at the floor.
Then his phone rang.
It was Mateo.
He had finally turned his phone back on.
Alejandro stared at the name on the screen for a long moment.
Then he answered.
"Where is my wife?" Mateo's voice was thick, still half-drunk.
"She won't pick up."
Alejandro's jaw tightened.
"She's in surgery, Mateo."
Silence.
"What?"
"She fell down your staircase hours ago.
She called you seventeen times."
The silence that followed was the loudest thing Alejandro had ever heard.
Then Mateo said something that made Alejandro's hand go cold around the phone.
Something that proved he already knew more than he was pretending.
---
What did Mateo say in that moment — and what does Alejandro now know about him?
The full truth is darker than you expect.
