Chapter 1: The Night They Showed Her Who They Were

Millicent violently knocks Rosalie's dinner plate onto the floor, grabs the pregnant woman by the arm, and pulls her away from the table.

Rosalie stumbles into a chair while shielding her belly.

"After delivery, the baby stays with us."

Caleb stands only a few feet away.

Rosalie looks desperately toward her husband, but he lowers his eyes instead of helping her.

"Caleb…

you agreed to this?"

Giancarlo has just stepped in for the family dinner and hears the question from the doorway.

He stops without announcing himself.

Millicent grabs Rosalie's packed hospital bag and hurls it across the room.

Caleb finally glances toward Rosalie but still does not move toward her.

"It's easier if you stop fighting my mother."

Giancarlo walks forward.

Giancarlo places himself between Rosalie and Caleb.

Then he delivers one thunderous open-handed sl*p across Caleb's face.

Caleb staggers backward into the dining table as Millicent recoils.

Giancarlo picks up Rosalie's hospital bag and gently places it back beside her.

Two bodyguards step in behind Caleb and Millicent.

"You never owned her child."

Caleb freezes.

Millicent's face drains.
