While Raymond lay unconscious in the ICU, Paige sat alone in a hospital waiting room — not crying, not shaking.
Just still.
A nurse approached her.
"Are you his wife?"
"Yes," Paige said quietly.
"I am."
The nurse hesitated.
"There's a man outside asking for you.
He says he's your stepfather."
Paige's jaw tightened.
She stood up slowly and walked to the door.
Gavin was there, red-eyed and sweating.
"You need to come with me right now," he whispered.
"I'm not going anywhere with you."
"Paige, listen to me — this wasn't supposed to happen like this.
Raymond was never supposed to end up in a hospital.
Someone moved faster than I expected."
She stared at him.
"What did you do, Gavin?"
He grabbed her arm.
"Keep your voice down.
There are people watching this hospital.
People who know what Raymond is worth — and they already think you did it."
Paige pulled her arm free.
"Who are these people?"
Gavin looked over his shoulder, then back at her.
"The same people who wrote that note at the wedding."
Before she could speak, her phone buzzed.
An unknown number.
One message.
*"Leave the hospital now.
Or we send the photos to the police."*
Paige's hand went cold.
What photos?
