Chapter 2: The Man She Never Expected

The ballroom stayed frozen.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Then Sylvia's voice cracked through the silence.

"That video has been edited.

Someone is trying to destroy my family on my son's wedding night."

A few guests shifted uncomfortably.

Some turned to each other.

A murmur moved through the room.

She was already working the crowd.

Marco stepped forward.

His voice was low and very controlled.

"Mother.

What was in the vial?"

"Nothing.

There was no vial.

This is a lie."

"I saw the footage, Mother.

Everyone saw it."

Sylvia's eyes moved to me.

Cold.

Calculating.

The kind of look she had practiced for years.

"She planned this.

She wanted to humiliate us in front of our guests.

This is what happens when you bring someone like her into this family."

Marco went completely still.

Then an older man near the back of the room stood up slowly.

I didn't recognize him at first.

But Sylvia did.

Her face changed in an instant.

The composure she had held so perfectly cracked open.

"How are you here," she whispered.

"You were supposed to be—"

She stopped herself.

The man walked toward the front of the room with a sealed envelope in his hand.

"Beatriz," he said quietly.

"There is something you need to know about your mother-in-law.

Something she has been hiding for much longer than tonight."
