Chapter 1: The Vial Beneath the Chandeliers

I never imagined my wedding day would become the moment I uncovered my mother-in-law's darkest secret.
With nearly 300 guests watching, cameras flashing, and everyone celebrating beneath crystal chandeliers, I saw Doña Sylvia Villareal quietly pour something into my drink.
She thought my smile hid my attention.
She thought I was too distracted by the perfect wedding to notice.
She was wrong.
My name is Beatriz Santos, and at twenty-nine years old, I was marrying into a world completely different from my own.
Before Marco Villareal, luxury meant a hotel ballroom with plastic chair covers and artificial flowers.
I was a marketing coordinator from a modest family, while Marco's family owned luxury hotels, private resorts, and properties across the country.
But Marco never treated me like I didn't belong.
He wore simple clothes, drove an old SUV, and shared street food with me after work.
I loved him before I ever knew his family's fortune.
His mother, however, never let me forget the difference between us.
At our first dinner, Sylvia looked at me across her marble dining room and asked, "Your parents still rent their house?"
For two years, she tried to pull us apart.
She introduced Marco to wealthy women, invited his ex-girlfriend to family events, and told people I was only temporary.
But Marco still proposed.
And on our wedding night at the Villareal oceanfront resort, Sylvia's hatred reached a terrifying new level.
The ceremony was breathtaking.
White orchids, cascading roses, mirrored tables, candlelight, and a handmade Milan wedding gown made me feel like I finally belonged in their world.
Maybe that was exactly what Sylvia couldn't stand.
During dinner, Marco was pulled away by photographers.
I stepped away briefly, then returned for my phone.
That was when I saw her.
Sylvia stood beside my seat with a tiny glass vial in one hand and my peach-colored drink in the other.
She glanced around.
Then she poured the clear liquid into my glass.
My heart stopped.
I wanted to expose her immediately.
But without proof, she would deny everything, and everyone would believe her before they believed me.
So I quietly opened the resort security app and saved the footage.
There she was.
Crystal clear.
Holding the vial.
Tampering with my drink.
Hiding the empty vial in her jeweled clutch.
I had the evidence.
But instead of stopping the wedding, I walked back smiling.
When Sylvia waited for me to drink, I made my move.
During the toast, with every guest watching, I quietly switched our glasses.
Nobody noticed.
Nobody except me.
Sylvia lifted the glass toward her lips.
Then Marco's phone buzzed.
A message appeared:
"ASK YOUR MOTHER WHAT SHE PUT IN BEATRIZ'S GLASS."
His expression changed.
Sylvia saw the message.
And behind us, the giant wedding screen suddenly went black.
The security video appeared.
A frozen image of Sylvia holding the vial above my drink filled the ballroom.
The entire room went silent.
Sylvia slowly turned toward me.
May you like
"What did you do?"
I reached for my phone beneath the table and smiled.
