Chapter 2: The Name in Red Marker

My hands were shaking as I read the letter by the light of my phone.

Grandfather's handwriting was slow and careful, like a man who knew every word had to count.

*"Your father has been forging my signature for eleven years.

The house was never his to inherit.

Neither was anything else.

I have the proof.

So do you now."*

I sat down on the floor right there in the living room.

Eleven years.

I opened the first bank statement.

My grandfather's name at the top.

A transfer of $340,000 to a company I didn't recognize.

Then another.

Then another.

All signed with his name — but the handwriting wasn't his.

I knew that handwriting.

I had watched it sign birthday cards my entire childhood.

It was my father's.

Then my phone lit up.

A text from Chloe: *"Did you find anything in that house?

Dad wants to know if you took anything before you left."*

I stared at the screen.

They already knew about the safe.

I set the phone face-down on the floor and reached for the second flash drive — the one labeled in red marker with a single word:

*RAYMOND.*

The same name as the attorney who had just read the will.

---

What Genevieve found on that flash drive exposed a betrayal far deeper than anyone imagined.
