Chapter 2: The Call I Almost Didn't Take

Part 2 ⬇️
I sat in my car at the end of the driveway, hands still shaking, and looked at my phone.
The notification was from an old savings account my grandmother had opened in my name when I was nine years old.
I hadn't touched it in years.
I had completely forgotten it existed.
The balance read: $47,320.
I stared at the screen.
Then I stared again.
My grandmother had been quietly depositing money into that account for over two decades — every birthday, every Christmas, every time she said "this is just a little something, Maya, for your future." I had never added it up.
I never knew.
I was still sitting there when my phone rang.
It was Chloe.
I almost didn't answer.
But something made me pick up.
"Maya." Her voice was different.
Quieter.
"I need to tell you something.
About Mom and Dad.
About why they really wanted that money."
My chest tightened.
"What do you mean?"
She hesitated.
I could hear her breathing.
"The BMW bill isn't mine," she said.
"It was never mine.
They put it in my name so you wouldn't ask questions.
Maya…
that car belongs to someone else entirely.
And if you knew who — you'd understand why they were so desperate for you to pay without looking too closely."
The line went silent.

What Chloe revealed next — and who that car really belongs to — will leave you speechless.
