Adrian stared at that slice of pie for a long moment.
Then he looked at Emma — really looked at her — and something shifted behind his eyes.
That evening, he called Lucas into his office.
"The diner," Adrian said.
"Who knew I was there the first night?"
Lucas didn't blink.
"Just the usual detail, boss.
Four men."
"And the envelope.
Who knew what was in it?"
A pause.
Small.
Almost nothing.
"No one outside the car."
Adrian set down his glass slowly.
"Then explain to me why Marco's crew was parked two blocks from Rose's Diner last Thursday."
Lucas said nothing.
"Emma saw them," Adrian said quietly.
"She asked Sophia why the same black car kept parking across the street but never came in."
The silence in the room turned hard.
"A six-year-old girl noticed what my own men didn't report."
Lucas finally spoke.
"Boss, I can explain—"
"Don't."
Adrian stood and walked to the window.
"Someone in my organization has been feeding information.
And the only people who knew my schedule that night…"
He didn't finish the sentence.
He didn't need to.
