Chapter 2: What Was Written on the Second Page

Part 2 👇

Savannah's father didn't make it to the door.

Two security officers stepped in front of him quietly.

No scene.

No shouting.

Just two large men and a closed exit.

The room watched.

Savannah spun toward the manager.

"What is in that folder?

You have no right—"

"We have every right," he said calmly.

"The attempt was made at 4:17 yesterday afternoon.

We have the signature."

All eyes moved to Savannah's father.

His face had gone the color of old ash.

Savannah turned to Marcus.

Her voice dropped low, almost a whisper.

"Say something.

This is our wedding.

Do something."

Marcus looked at his grandmother.

Then at his new wife.

Then at the folder still open in the manager's hands.

He didn't move.

Evelyn hadn't raised her voice once.

She simply stood at that table — the one she'd been told to leave — and looked at the man she had raised from a four-year-old boy.

"Marcus," she said quietly.

"I need you to look at the second page."

He stepped forward slowly and looked down.

Whatever was on that page made him close his eyes.

When he opened them, he wasn't looking at Savannah anymore.

He was looking at her father.

"How long?" he asked.

His voice was barely steady.

"How long have you known about this property?"

Savannah's father said nothing.

But Savannah did.

And what she said next made three guests stand up from their chairs at the same time.

What Evelyn uncovered about Savannah's family goes far deeper than one forged signature.
