Chapter 2: The Envelope on the Desk

Part 2 ⬇️

Charlotte didn't scream.

She didn't beg.

She slowly pushed herself up from the marble floor, her scraped hands leaving faint marks on the stone.

The socialite stood over her, arms crossed, a cold smile on her face.

"Still here?" she said.

"Security — remove her."

Two guards moved forward.

Charlotte looked up at them and said quietly, "I wouldn't do that if I were you."

The guards hesitated.

Something in her voice made them stop.

The socialite laughed.

"She's nobody.

Get her out."

But then a man in a dark suit stepped out of the elevator.

He froze the moment he saw Charlotte on the floor.

His face went pale.

He recognized her.

Charlotte met his eyes and said nothing.

She didn't need to.

He already knew exactly who she was — because he was the one who had helped erase her identity three years ago.

He was also the one holding documents that were never supposed to exist.

Documents that proved everything.

His hand moved slowly to his jacket pocket.

Charlotte watched him.

"Don't," she said softly.

He stopped.

The lobby was completely silent.

And then Charlotte reached into her bag and placed a single envelope on the front desk.

"Call the chairman," she said to the receptionist.

"Tell him Charlotte Vale is here to collect what belongs to her."

The socialite's smile disappeared.
