Chapter 2: He Never Comes Alone

Part 2 ⬇️

The engine sound grew louder.

Then a black truck appeared at the far end of the road, moving slow.

Too slow.

The biker didn't move.

But his jaw locked tight.

One of his men stepped closer.

"You know who that is?"

He didn't answer right away.

Lila pressed her face against his vest and made a sound so small it barely reached him.

But he heard it.

He crouched down again, both hands on her shoulders.

"Did he bring you here?

To this road?"

She shook her head.

"I ran.

I ran for a long time."

"Where from?"

Her lip trembled.

"The house with the blue door.

He said it was safe.

He said my mama sent me there."

Something shifted in his face.

"What did you say?"

"He said my mama sent me." Her voice dropped to almost nothing.

"But my mama's been g0ne since I was a baby.

That's what he always told me."

The biker stood up slowly.

His hand moved to the inside of his jacket without thinking.

One of his men grabbed his arm.

"Not here.

Not in front of her."

The truck had stopped about two hundred yards away.

The engine was still running.

No one got out.

Just waiting.

Lila tugged the back of his vest.

"He's not alone," she whispered.

"He never is."
