My throat tightened.
“I…
lost my balance.”
“That isn’t what I asked,” Luca said.
“Did Isabella touch you?”
Isabella stepped closer.
“Emma, think carefully before you create trouble over a simple accident.”
Bruno moved in front of me again.
Luca’s eyes narrowed.
“Why does she need to think carefully?”
“She lies for attention,” Isabella snapped.
“Ask anyone.”
“I’m asking Emma.”
My hands began shaking.
“She sh0ved my shoulder.”
Isabella’s face hardened.
“That is not true.”
Before Luca could answer, his phone vibrated.
He read the message, then looked toward the greenhouse.
“What is it?” Isabella asked.
“The garden security camera.”
Her confidence vanished.
“That camera hasn’t worked for months,” she said quickly.
Luca held her gaze.
“Then how did you know which camera I meant?”
Silence.
He tapped his phone, and a grainy video appeared.
Isabella rushed forward.
“Luca, wait—”
He raised one hand, stopping her.
The image showed me falling beside the stone path, but someone had deleted the seconds before it.
Then a woman’s voice played from the recording.
“If you tell Luca what happened, you’ll regret it.”
Luca slowly turned toward Isabella.
But the voice wasn’t hers.
