Chapter 2: The Name She Was Never Supposed to Say

Part 2 ⬇️
Charlotte didn't scream.
She didn't beg.
She simply looked up from the floor — and smiled.
That smile made the socialite stop cold.
"Why are you smiling?" the woman snapped.
"Security!
Get this person out of my hotel!"
Two guards moved toward Charlotte.
But before they could reach her, an older man in a dark suit stepped forward from the far side of the lobby.
His face was pale.
His hands were shaking.
He had recognized her.
"Miss Vale—" he started.
"Don't." The socialite cut him off.
"I don't care who she says she is.
Remove her."
Charlotte slowly rose to her feet.
She reached into the inside pocket of her jacket and pulled out a folded document.
She didn't raise her voice.
"You might want to read that," she said quietly, "before you say another word."
The guard took the document.
His eyes moved across the page.
Then he went completely still.
The socialite snatched it from his hands.
The lobby had gone absolutely silent.
And then her face changed.
Because printed at the top of that document, in clear black letters, was a name she had spent two years trying to erase.
Charlotte Vale.
Sole legal owner of the Solmere Hotel and all properties under the Solmere Empire.
The socialite's mouth opened.
Nothing came out.
"But you're supposed to be—" she whispered.
"Gone?" Charlotte said.
"I know."
