The room went completely silent.

Evelyn's eyes moved from the folder to my face.

Her mouth opened, but nothing came out.

Daniel grabbed my arm.

"Where did you get that?"

I pulled free.

"Don't touch me."

Noah was pressed against my side, still crying quietly.

I kept one hand on his back.

"That document," I said, loud enough for every relative in the room to hear, "is the deed.

My name.

Not yours, Daniel.

Mine.

It has been mine since before we were married."

Evelyn found her voice.

"That's impossible.

My son paid for this house."

"Your son signed papers he never read." I turned the page toward her.

"Ask him."

Every head in the room turned to Daniel.

He said nothing.

That silence told them everything.

Then Evelyn did something I did not expect.

She laughed.

Not the cruel laugh from before.

Something colder.

"You think a piece of paper protects you?" she said softly.

"You have no idea what we already set in motion."

My hand tightened around the folder.

Because behind her, one of the relatives had quietly picked up his phone.

And I recognized the name on his screen.

It was my lawyer.
