Chapter 2: The Man Who Was Never Supposed to Return

**— PART 2 —**
The groom's voice broke the silence first.
**"Mother…
what is that pendant?"**
The wealthy woman couldn't answer.
Her lips moved but no sound came out.
For the first time in her life, the woman who controlled everything — every room, every decision, every person in her family — had nothing left to say.
The bride's hands were trembling, but her voice was steady.
**"My mother gave it to me before she d*ed.
She said it was the only thing she had left from my real family."**
A sharp breath cut through the ballroom.
The groom stepped closer.
He looked at the pendant.
Then he looked at the woman he had always called Mother.
**"You told me my birth family was gone.
You told me there was no one left."**
Still she said nothing.
Then an elderly man near the back of the room slowly rose from his seat.
His face was pale.
His hands gripped the chair in front of him.
Everyone turned.
He looked directly at the wealthy woman — not with confusion, but with something far worse.
Recognition.
**"Eleanor,"** he said quietly.
**"Tell them the truth.
Tell them what you did that night thirty years ago."**
Eleanor's face crumpled.
Because that man was the one person she never expected to see again.
The one person who had been there.
The one person who knew exactly what happened to the little girl.
