Chapter 2: The Camera in the Hall

Part 2 ⬇️
I called the police right there in that hallway.
Brenda grabbed my arm.
"Put that phone down.
You'll destroy this family."
I pulled free.
"You destroyed it the moment you touched me."
Brian stepped between us, his voice low.
"Samantha, just wait—"
"Wait for what, Brian?
Our daughter is in cardiac arrest."
He flinched.
But he still didn't move toward me.
The officer arrived within minutes.
I told him everything.
The sl@p.
The fall.
The silence.
Brenda standing over me telling me to say it was an acc!dent.
Brenda cut in before I finished.
"She was half-asleep.
She lost her grip.
I was trying to calm everyone down."
The officer looked at her, then at me.
"Ma'am, are there any cameras in the home?"
Brenda went very still.
Brian turned to look at her slowly.
Because there was a camera.
A small one Brian had installed in the hallway three months ago after a package went missing from our porch.
Neither of us had mentioned it since.
Brenda's expression didn't break.
But something behind her eyes shifted.
"I don't know what you're referring to," she said quietly.
That was when Dr.
Wright appeared in the doorway behind us.
"Mrs.
Albright — we need you.
Now."
I didn't know if he meant good news or the worst news of my life.
