Chapter 2: The Name on the Filing

Eleanor handed me a folder the moment the car door closed.
"He moved fast," she said.
"Faster than we expected."
I opened it.
Julian had filed for divorce three weeks after my conviction.
The Sterling Group had been restructured.
My name removed from every board document.
My shares — the ones I had refused to sign over — quietly transferred to a shell company registered in the Cayman Islands.
Victoria's name was on the filing.
I closed the folder.
"He gave her my company," I said.
"He tried to." Eleanor's voice was steady.
"But he made one mistake."
I looked at her.
"He used the same offshore structure he built in 2019." She tapped the folder.
"The one you audited before the wedding.
The one where you kept a copy of every internal transfer code."
My hands did not shake.
That surprised me once.
It no longer did.
"Does he know I'm out?" I asked.
"Not yet.
He's hosting a celebration dinner tonight.
The divorce was finalized yesterday."
I looked out at the rain.
"Good," I said quietly.
"Let him open the champagne."
Eleanor's phone buzzed.
She glanced at it and went very still.
"Genevieve." Her voice changed.
"Victoria filed a second statement this morning.
She's claiming you threatened her — before the trial.
There's a witness."
I turned slowly.
"What witness?"
May you like
Eleanor looked up from the phone.
"Your sister."
