Chapter 2: The Initials on the Back

Part 2 — Continued 👇

Julian froze.

His hand dropped from Elena's arm.

Richard Kensington stepped forward — slowly, deliberately — his eyes never leaving the necklace.

"Where did you get that?" he asked Elena.

His voice was barely above a whisper now.

But the entire room heard every word.

"It was given to me," Elena said carefully.

"By the woman who raised me."

Richard closed his eyes for a moment.

When he opened them, they were wet.

"May I?" He reached toward the necklace with a trembling hand.

Elena nodded.

He turned it over gently.

On the back, barely visible after thirty years, were two engraved initials.

*A.K.*

Eleanor made a sound that wasn't quite a word.

She grabbed her brother's arm to steady herself.

Julian stepped forward, his voice tight with forced confidence.

"Mr.

Kensington, I apologize for whatever is happening here.

My wife is clearly—"

"Your wife," Richard said quietly, cutting him off, "has no idea who she is."

He turned to face the entire room.

"And neither do you."

Julian's smile collapsed.

Richard reached into his jacket and removed something small — a photograph, worn at the edges — and held it out to Elena with a shaking hand.

Elena looked down.

And the room watched her face change completely.

---

What was in that photograph — and what has Julian been hiding from Elena all along?
