Upstairs, Amara didn't rush.
She moved through the bedroom the way she had learned to move through Dante's world — quietly, carefully, leaving nothing behind that she still needed.
The suitcase had been packed for eleven days.
Tucked beneath it, inside a folded sweater, was a manila envelope.
Inside the envelope were thirty-one photographs.
Dates.
Times.
Addresses.
Two of Dante's most trusted associates entering the same North Side townhouse.
A document she had found in his private office three weeks ago — not a business contract.

"You don't have to go," Selena said quietly.
"That's not what either of us wanted."
Amara looked at her for a long moment.
"Tell me," she said.
"How long have you known he was going to do this?"
Selena's expression shifted.
