Chapter 2: The Name She Would Not Say

At the hospital, Julian did not sit.
He stood at the window of the waiting room with his back to everyone, his phone dark in his hand.
A security man approached.
"Sir.
Thomas Bell has not been located."
Julian did not turn around.
"Find him."
Nora sat across the room with Lily asleep against her shoulder.
She had not spoken since the ambulance left.
But when Julian finally turned, he looked directly at her — and the look was not anger.
It was recognition.
Like a man who had just found a door he thought had been sealed shut.
"How long have you worked for me?" he asked quietly.
"Eighteen months."
"And before that?"
Nora's jaw tightened.
"I lived with my sister."
The word landed between them like something dropped from a great height.
Julian took one step closer.
His voice dropped so only she could hear.
"What was your sister's name, Nora?"
Her eyes filled.
She did not answer.
She did not need to.
Julian looked down at Lily — at the dark curls, the small hand still clutching the stuffed rabbit — and something in his face changed completely.
Then his phone rang.
It was the toxicology unit.
The p0ison in Cassandra's glass had not been meant for Cassandra.
