Chapter 2: The Woman Who Took the Bus

Part 2 ⬇️
I asked the family to step outside while the doctor finished with Maya.
Marcus smirked.
"We're not going anywhere."
I looked at him calmly.
"That wasn't a request."
Something in my voice made Julian glance at his brother.
They left.
Evelyn was the last to move, and she did it slowly, like a woman who wanted me to know she wasn't afraid.
The moment the door closed, Maya grabbed my hand.
"Mom, there's something I didn't say in front of them."
Her voice was shaking worse than before.
"There's a woman.
She works at their estate.
She saw everything that night."
I leaned closer.
"Does she have a name?"
"Diane.
But she's scared.
Julian told her if she ever talked, he'd have her deported."
Before I could respond, the door opened.
It wasn't Marcus.
It wasn't Evelyn.
It was a young woman in a housekeeping uniform, still wearing her estate ID badge.
Her hands were clasped together so tightly her knuckles had gone pale.
She looked at Maya.
Then at me.
"I heard she was here," she whispered.
"I took a bus.
I have photos on my phone.
I took them that night because I was afraid no one would believe me."
Her voice broke.
"I can't stay quiet anymore."

What Diane showed me next made my bl0od run cold — and it was exactly the proof I needed.
