Chapter 2: Three Words From a Lawyer

Part 2 👇
Vanessa excused herself from the table, head down, one hand pressed against the back of her torn gown.
Daniel followed close behind, his jaw tight.
I didn't move.
Elena reached over and touched my hand.
"What did you do?" she whispered.
"Nothing yet," I said.
Daniel found me near the bar ten minutes later.
He wasn't laughing anymore.
"That was an accident," he said quietly.
"You can't prove anything."
I looked at him for a long moment.
"I have photographs, Daniel.
I have the footage from the service entrance camera.
And I had a very interesting conversation with the venue manager this afternoon."
His face went still.
"This is her wedding day," he said.
"You're going to ruin it over a prank?"
"She ruined it," I said.
"I simply made sure the right person sat in that chair."
He stepped closer.
"Back off, Dad.
You don't know what you're getting into."
That was when my phone buzzed.
I glanced down at the screen.
It was a message from my lawyer.
Three words.
*It's all confirmed.*
I slipped the phone back into my pocket and picked up my glass.
Daniel watched me, suddenly uncertain.
"What does that mean?" he asked.
"What's confirmed?"
I didn't answer.
Because what was coming next had nothing to do with a chair.
---
What did that message mean — and what had this father quietly set in motion before the wedding even began?
