Chapter 2: The Folder She Kept Hidden

I carried Isabella inside and sat her at the kitchen table.
Our housekeeper, Rosa, appeared in the doorway.
The moment she saw Isabella's hands, her face crumpled.
She pressed her fingers to her mouth and looked away.
"Rosa." My voice was quiet.
"How long has this been happening?"
She didn't answer immediately.
Her eyes moved to the hallway behind me.
"Rosa.
Look at me."
She swallowed hard.
"Sir…
I wanted to call you.
I tried—"
"How long?"
Her voice dropped to almost nothing.
"Since the second week after you left."
Three months.
My daughter had spent three months being used as a servant inside her own home while I built hotels in another country.
I heard Beatriz's heels on the marble floor behind me.
"Rosa, go to your room."
Rosa didn't move.
For the first time, she straightened her back and stayed exactly where she was.
Beatriz's eyes narrowed.
"I said go."
"She stays," I said.
"She's a witness."
The word landed like a stone.
Beatriz's expression changed completely.
The warmth was gone.
What replaced it was something colder and more familiar — the face she had never let me see before.
"You're making a mistake," she said quietly.
"Am I?"
She stepped closer and lowered her voice so Isabella couldn't hear.
"You have no idea what I know about you.
About your company.
About where that money actually came from."
The room went very still.
Then Isabella tugged my sleeve.
Her voice was barely a whisper.
"Dad…
she has a folder.
In her room.
She told me if you ever found out…
she would use it."

What's inside that folder — and how far is Beatriz willing to go to protect herself?
