Chapter 2: The Name on the Wall

Gretchen's eyes swept the room.

The detective.

The nurses.

Me.

Then she said it.

"He's not even yours, Whitney."

The room went completely still.

My mother stopped crying.

The detective's hand froze mid-reach.

One of the nurses took a small step back.

I couldn't speak.

I couldn't breathe.

"What did you just say?"

Gretchen lifted her chin.

"You heard me.

"So that's why," I whispered.

"That's why you didn't call 911.

That's why you let him—"

I couldn't finish the sentence.

The detective stepped forward.

"Ma'am, I need you to stop talking."

But Gretchen wasn't finished.

"There's a name in that shed.

Written on the wall.

You'll want to know whose name it is."

Calvin's monitor beeped steadily behind the glass.

His tiny hand was still pointing at them.

And I realized the secret wasn't just about who hurt my son.

It was about who he really was — and who had been watching him long before that night.

---

What name is written on that wall — and what does it mean for Calvin and Whitney?

The full truth is darker and more heartbreaking than anyone expected.
