Chapter 2: The Folder That Went Back Further Than Tonight

Part 2 ⬇️

Ethan's smile collapsed the moment Liam said his name.

"Wait — you're her *brother*?"

Liam didn't answer.

He was already beside me, his hand covering mine, his voice dropping low enough that only I could hear.

"I've got you.

You're safe now."

I tried to speak.

My throat wouldn't let me.

Ethan stepped forward.

"This is a misunderstanding.

She fell — I was right there —"

"Stop talking." Liam turned slowly.

"I am the chief of this department.

I have examined her injuries.

And I am telling you — as a doctor and as her brother — that what I see is not consistent with any fall."

Two security officers appeared in the doorway.

Ethan's voice shifted.

Quieter.

Almost gentle.

"Sweetheart." He looked directly at me.

"Tell them.

Tell them what happened."

My fingers tightened around Liam's hand.

Then a nurse stepped forward and placed a sealed folder on the tray beside my bed.

"Doctor," she said quietly.

"The records you requested.

They go back further than tonight."

Liam opened the folder.

His jaw tightened.

He looked up at Ethan with something I had never seen on my brother's face before.

Not anger.

Something colder than that.

What was inside that folder — and what does Liam do next?

The full truth is darker than anyone in that room expected.
