Chapter 2: The Open Call She Didn't Know About

I said: "My name is recorded.

The date is recorded.

And everything you have done to me since week twenty-two is already uploaded."

The room went completely still.

My husband's smile disappeared so fast it looked like something had pulled it off his face.

My mother-in-law stepped back.

Just one step.

But I saw it.

She was afraid.

"You're bluffing," my husband said.

"You don't have anything."

I didn't answer him.

I looked at the phone on the dresser — his phone, still streaming — and I said, "Check the comments."

He grabbed it.

His face changed color.

Because the comments weren't from his usual audience anymore.

Someone had shared the stream.

It had jumped to a group I didn't recognize.

And strangers — hundreds of them — had already started screenshotting.

My mother-in-law snatched the phone from him and read the screen.

Then she did something that scared me more than anything she had done in weeks.

She smiled.

"It doesn't matter," she said quietly.

"By morning, they'll say you're unstable.

We have a doctor who will confirm it.

And when that baby comes—"

She stopped herself.

But I had already heard enough.

And so had the grocery driver, still parked outside, still connected to my phone through the open call she didn't know about.
