Adrian couldn't move.
His eyes were fixed on the screen.
The footage was clear.
Vanessa's hand on the stroller.
The push.
Clara running.
Clara catching Emma before she hit the stairs.
He had sl@pped the wrong woman.
"Clara…" His voice cracked.
But Clara stepped back.
Her cheek was still red.
Her arms were shaking.
"Don't."
Vanessa's face changed.
The tears stopped.
Something colder moved behind her eyes.
"It was an accident," she said quickly.
"I lost my balance.
The camera doesn't show the whole—"
"Stop talking." Olivia's voice was sharp.
"We all saw it."
The room went silent.
Then Adrian's mother, who had been standing in the doorway the whole time, walked slowly to the table and set down an envelope.
"This isn't the first time," she said quietly.
"I've been watching Vanessa for three months.
I didn't want to believe it either."
Adrian looked at the envelope.
He didn't pick it up.
Vanessa's eyes locked onto it — and for just one second, real fear crossed her face.
"Where did you get that?" she whispered.
Nobody answered.
