Chapter 2: Four Words Through a Closed Door

The room went completely still.
Victor didn't move.
He just stared down at Noah — this tiny boy with dark eyes and a quiet smile — and something shifted in his face that I had never seen before.
Not anger.
Not confusion.
Something that looked almost like pain.
"What did he just say?" one of the security guards muttered behind him.
Victor raised one hand and the guard went silent immediately.
He crouched down slowly until he was at Noah's level.
"Who told you to call me that?" he asked.
His voice was low.
Careful.
Noah didn't flinch.
He just pointed at the photograph on the wall.
"Elena showed me," he said.
"She said you were my daddy.
She said one day you would come."
Victor stood up slowly.
His jaw was tight.
His eyes moved to me.
"How long have you known about this?"
"I only knew what Elena told me before she passed," I said.
"She made me promise to keep them safe.
She never told me why the photograph was there.
She never explained."
He turned back to the wall.
Stared at his own younger face in that photo.
Then Daniel stepped forward — fourteen years old, arms crossed, voice harder than any boy his age should sound.
"Are you going to take him away from us?"
Victor didn't answer.
His phone rang.
He looked at the screen.
Something changed in his expression — fast, sharp, like a warning.
He stepped away and answered quietly.
All I heard before the door closed behind him were four words.
*"How did you find out?"*
