Chapter 2: The Second Name

Frank's voice was tight.

"Daniel.

The missing shipment didn't vanish.

It was redirected.

Someone inside rerouted the cold-chain delivery two days ago.

The biologics went to a private address instead of the hospital."

"What address?"

Frank read it out.

I knew that street.

I pulled up the pharmacy records again and cross-checked the delivery log.

The address matched a shell account registered under a name I recognized immediately.

Sam Miller's logistics subsidiary.

My jaw tightened.

"Frank.

How many children were waiting on that shipment?"

A pause.

"Eleven.

Lily Santos was one of them."

I set the phone down without ending the call.

Through the camera feed, Maya was still in the kitchen.

Still holding that bottle.

Still talking softly to a child who wasn't there.

I'd seen grown men crumble under financial pressure.

I'd watched companies beg.

I had never felt anything.

But watching Maya hold that bottle in an empty room broke something open in me I didn't have a name for.

I picked the phone back up.

"Get Sam Miller on the line.

Tonight."

Frank hesitated.

"Daniel…

he's not going to admit anything."

"He doesn't need to admit it.

I already have the logs."

Then Ryan's second message came through.

One line.

*There's a second child listed in Maya's file.

Not Lily.*

I stared at the screen.
